Crochet 101: How to make a single crochet bow

Here is the how to video I did for making a simple single crochet bow.

I chained 13 and SC across the chain row(skipping first stitch) chain 1 and turn for 5 rows, then tied off. For the tie I chained 7 and single crocheted across the chain row (skipping the first stitch). I then placed the tie around the middle of the bow and sewed (or whipstitched) into place. Simple and Easy Single Crochet Bow!!!!!!!

I completed my first dress! I used an old bed sheet for fabric, so that I didn't ruin all the pretty and expensive fabric that I have bought. This pattern was pretty complex and somewhat tricky for a beginner. I am super proud of myself for getting it done on my own! I am super nervous, but this weekend I will cut pattern pieces from actual fabric! Wish me luck!

My grand idea this week....seed starting in subzero January

My craft and hobby journey this week, while battling what I think was flu, lead me to start my garden seeds. It's the middle of the coldest January I've ever remembered, so to keep myself from getting down about the subzero temps, I've gotten myself lost in gardening blogs and pinterest pins. When I get excited about things I go for them. No waiting or planning; I just jump on in.

So far, the Venus fly traps and pitcher plants have yet to sprout. My lettuce is close to two inches tall already! I also have 3 sunflowers peaking out above my tiny Tupperware container of potting mix I dug out of the planter I got from dad's funeral. Did I mention I don't plan well? It appears I will need to find a few bigger containers and some better dirt for my plants. One inch diameter snack cups are not going to cut it if I plan to keep my food alive until spring.

I will post more about my haphazard seed starting soon. Until then, I'm off to start on my next grand idea...

Bright Thinking

“Sometimes the brightest light comes from the darkest places.” I found that quote in my dad’s notebook the other day. My goal is to be successful and inspire others. I choose not to dwell on lies and hate that are spewed at me. I will return hate with silence and pride. Evil is not as strong as the faith I have in myself. How do I use my life experiences to help others? I have overcome, but why? Jesus said, “what God has cleansed you must not call common.” How will I inspire someone this week? I find it odd and intriguing that the power of the mind is dismissed as lunacy or psychotic. I was not a cockroach in a past life! I am privileged to be human, no matter the circumstance! Think of all the animals that would love to drive a car or eat mashed potatoes! Keep perspective. I tell myself I am happy and healthy daily. My brain is powerful enough to make it happen. Cancel out the negative thoughts with the positive opposite. Try it and tell me how you feel in a few days.
